Tech Writing: Software, Etc.

I have been writing technical material for 20 years, specializing in (but not limited to) the software industry. From first-time online help systems to converting entire suites of documentation to a different tool; from writing style guides to salvaging under-performing projects, I've managed projects start to finish including:

  • Manuals and reports
  • Online help systems
  • Tutorials, CBTs, and other training materials
  • Copywriting, direct marketing, and branding
  • Formatting and desktop publishing
  • Editing and proof-reading
  • Conversions
  • Compliance certification
  • Standardization, style guides, and templates

Since most technical writing is proprietal, my colleagues and I always wonder how to demonstrate our work. I am providing this example of my work, how to maintain my pool system.

No matter how complex the system, good documentation requires determining the audience, testing your assumptions, and then developing materials accordingly.

See the sidebar for a list of industries, tools, and applications with which I have experience. I learn new businesses and technologies easily.
